Senior Producer, Explanatory Audio

Vox Media, one of the fastest growing purveyors of top-notch podcasts, is looking for an experienced senior producer to work with our explanatory audio team. The mission of the explanatory division is to tell stories about important topics that are undercovered or overshadowed by the news of the day – from history to culture to health to policy and more. We are also experimental. Our goal is to create narratives that sound and feel different and are relevant to new audiences.
Your projects might range from working with a small group to create original reporting projects in existing shows to developing and launching new series. We’re looking for someone who is a seasoned, accomplished reporter and narrative producer but who is eager to experiment with form and style. We welcome your creativity and ambition. This is not a management position, but you’ll have a hand in shaping the future of a growing department.
What you'll do:
Work within a team to develop narrative audio projects Research and propose timely and distinctive stories Research and assemble prep Conduct reporting as needed Locate and book original, diverse sources and guests Write scripts Edit audio in ProTools Experiment with new content and concepts as we expand the limits of what explanatory podcasts can be Ensure show meet Vox’s high journalistic and creative standards What you’ll bring:
Significant experience creating audio stories as part of a collaborative team Strong project management skills, will the ability to juggle simultaneous tasks (research, audio editing, interviewing) week to week and work independently as needed A portfolio that demonstrates an ear for great tape and inventive approaches to audio storytelling Experience scripting and editing compelling, curiosity-driven stories or segments A track record of developing stories that draw on diverse perspectives/source lists Experience creating assemblies and rough-mixing audio. Proficiency in ProTools strongly preferred but candidates with proficiency in other editing programs will be considered. A passion for explanatory journalism Creativity and a desire to push the boundaries and be innovative Vox values thinkers, creatives, and obsessives from all backgrounds.
