Job Summary
The Producer supports the production of The TransLash Podcast with Imara Jones and The Mess: Imara’s Guide to Our Political Hellscape. Reporting to the Director of Podcasts, the Producer oversees episodes from planning through release, coordinating guests, managing timelines, preparing scripts, supporting recordings, and guiding post-production. This role works closely with the host, executive leadership, and internal and external partners to ensure each episode reflects TransLash’s editorial standards and mission.
Roles and Responsibilities
Pre-Production
- Research and propose guests, topics, and special series.
- Coordinate guest outreach, scheduling, and preparation.
- Gather and manage guest materials (bios, headshots, social handles).
- Draft guest briefs, scripts, and audio elements.
- Lead planning meetings and prepare episodes for recording.
Production
- Support and oversee remote recordings to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Provide fact-checking support during recordings of The Mess.
- Interview, record, and edit audio for the “Trans Joy” segment.
- Manage and organize all audio and production files.
- Support evolving video podcast workflows and recordings.
- Produce promotional audio (pre-, mid-, and post-rolls).
Post-Production
- Review edits, provide notes to sound engineers, and approve final mixes.
- Ensure episodes meet TransLash standards for accuracy, tone, and quality.
- Draft show descriptions and upload final episodes.
- Identify audio for digital promotion and award submissions.
- Coordinate promotion of content with partners and distribution platforms.
### Project Management
- Manage production timelines, workflows, and deliverables across shows.
- Maintain production plans and task tracking in Asana.
- Coordinate logistics across staff, freelancers, and external partners.
- Anticipate and resolve scheduling or workflow challenges.
- Support continuous improvement of production systems and processes.
- Manage podcast equipment logistics, shipping, and inventory.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Experience producing podcasts or audio journalism in a deadline-driven environment.
- At least 1–2 years producing interview-based programming.
- Strong writing skills, editorial judgment, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with clarity and care.
- Experience with tools such as Asana, Google Drive, Slack, and remote recording platforms (e.g., Riverside).
- Familiarity with podcast distribution and audio editing tools.
- Some experience with video production or a strong interest in learning video podcast workflows.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity when working with trans and LGBTQ+ communities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating as part of a small, mission-driven team.
Physical Requirements
- Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
- Prolonged periods working on a computer.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
Location
This is a fully remote position. The Podcast Producer may be based anywhere within the United States.
Salary
$85,000–$100,500 annually plus benefits.
