Brand Partnerships & Sales Lead
A project or contract Sales Representative position
Fully remote: working with a USA-based team at Southern Gothic Media.
ABOUT SOUTHERN GOTHIC MEDIA Southern Gothic Media is a podcast production company and independent audio network specializing in dark history, true crime, and paranormal storytelling. With hit shows like Southern Gothic and Fear Daily, our content reaches nearly 500,000 downloads each month—an audience of highly engaged podcast fans who live Halloween year-round. Our listeners are predominantly upper-middle class, educated, and deeply loyal to the niche world of spooky, mysterious, and true historical storytelling.
Founded by storyteller Brandon Schexnayder, Southern Gothic Media has grown from a single podcast into a network of distinctive voices uncovering America’s haunted past, historic mysteries, horrible true crime and spookies stories. Now, we're building a new side of our business—connecting unique brands to our unique audience—and we’re looking for the right person to build it with us.
ABOUT THE ROLE As the Brand Partnerships & Sales Lead, you will be responsible for developing and executing our monetization strategy alongside our founder. This is a brand-new, commission-based contractor role for someone entrepreneurial and creative—someone excited to sell podcast sponsorships and pitch longer-term, custom brand collaborations.
You’ll work directly with the founder to build a lead generation system, create pitch kits and packages, and close advertising deals with niche-aligned brands like ghost tour companies, horror conventions, spooky lifestyle retailers, indie publishers, and more. You’ll be supported with access to HubSpot CRM and a rapidly growing inventory of podcast.
This is not a role for someone who needs a blueprint—this is for a scrappy closer who sees opportunity in the weird and spooky.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and manage a robust sales pipeline for podcast sponsorships using HubSpot CRM
- Identify and pursue niche-aligned advertisers and creative brand partnerships
- Collaborate with the founder to create pitch materials and rate cards
- Lead outreach, cold contact, and follow-up with potential sponsors
- Develop custom integration ideas such as branded episodes, newsletter sponsorships, and product spotlights
- Work toward and exceed monthly revenue targets with bonus incentives
- Help shape pricing strategy and explore non-traditional advertising formats
- Report regularly on leads, progress, and deals closed
WHO YOU ARE
- Scrappy & entrepreneurial: You love building things from the ground up and aren't afraid to cold contact new leads
- Sales-savvy: You have some experience with outbound sales, understand how to move a deal through a pipeline, and can adapt your pitch to fit the buyer
- Creative & brand-aware: You understand how to make an ad feel like part of the story and how to build authentic partnerships, not just sell inventory
- Collaborative: You want to work side-by-side with the founder to shape this role and this department
- Podcasts or spooky stuff: You either love podcasting, or you love the niche (true crime, ghost stories, dark folklore). Ideally both.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Experience with sales, partnerships, or business development (formal or informal—we care more about attitude than credentials)
- Working knowledge of HubSpot.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter mindset and the ability to manage your own pipeline and time.
- Passion for podcasts and/or an understanding of niche audiences
- Bonus: Experience selling podcast ads or sponsorships, or knowledge of the paranormal/true crime/horror space
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- 20% commission on all deals closed
- Bonus incentives for meeting sales goals
- Contract/freelance position with flexible hours
