Sound Designer

We are hiring a Sound Designer to join our team on a contract basis, to work on one or more of our shows.
The successful candidate will be located in Vancouver, and will work with the direction of the Show Producer and Executive Producer to edit, mix and format audio assets including podcast episodes, trailers, and other media.
Working with an episode script, you will be involved in choosing and combining music, interviews, narration, sound effects and recordings to building an immersive audio experience for audiences of our shows, and may be involved in live recordings, field recordings and other studio work.
The work would be full-time for the length of the contract, or on a per-episode basis, to be determined by the production requirements of the individual show.
The work:
- Edit host narration and interview clips, sourced and original audio, music and sound effects with the direction of the Show Producer and Executive Producer
- Work collaboratively with all members of the production team to ensure that the show’s mandate and values are reflected in the overall audio product represented by the show
- Record, mix, and EQ audio throughout episodes and interviews, ensuring excellent consistency and audio quality throughout
- Participate in feedback sessions with clients and the team
- Ensure timely delivery on tight deadlines, including revisions and multiple versions
The candidate:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in audio for podcast, broadcast, feature or documentary film, scripted or episodic television
- Demonstrated experience in audio recording, editing and restoration
- Strong audio storytelling skills, including mixing voice and music, using sourced and original audio to create scenes
- Knowledge of audio libraries, file management
- Expert user of digital recording and editing systems. We use Adobe Audition, but are also looking for people with experience using Pro Tools or other comparable products
- Access to a laptop or workstation compatible with recent editions of Adobe Audition, as well as our other core communications and workflow software
- Knowledge of music a plus (production, composition, or as a musician) but not necessary
- Must be an effective communicator, and an excellent collaborator, who is able and willing to give and get feedback and translate that into an even better show
- Flexibility to work hours matching the production scheduling needs, based on deadlines, multiple time zones etc.
