About One Decision
One Decision is a weekly geopolitics interview show anchored by Sir Richard Dearlove, former chief of MI6, with co-host John Raine, former UK diplomat and IISS fellow. We publish on YouTube and the major podcast platforms. The channel has grown from about 15,000 subscribers to more than 420,000, most of that in the last eighteen months.
Guests include: former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson (his first podcast interview); Secretary of State Marco Rubio; former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert; former CIA and NSA directors John McLaughlin, Robert Gates, Michael Hayden, and Mike Pompeo; Generals David Petraeus and Stanley McChrystal; former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, former US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo; Mohamed El-Erian; Fareed Zakaria; Geoffrey Hinton; Garry Kasparov; Christiane Amanpour; and Steven Soderbergh, alongside sitting ministers, ambassadors, and heads of state across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Your job is to keep that pipeline full and open the next set of doors.
What you will do
- Book high-profile guests in close collaboration with the Managing Editor. The emphasis is on a steady flow of confirmed bookings rather than on generating guest ideas, though ideas are welcome.
- Build and maintain a rolling target list tied to the editorial calendar, and find the right route to each target: a direct approach, a chief of staff, an agent, a former colleague, or an institutional intermediary.
- Own each booking from first contact through confirmation, briefing, and scheduling. Work with the Managing Editor to match guests to the news cycle and to episodes likely to travel.
- Keep relationships going after the first appearance so guests come back.
- Keep clean, current records of contacts, conversations, and commitments. Note: Success in this role is measured in confirmed bookings, not emails sent.
A typical week Episodes are generally recorded on Monday and Tuesday and released Thursday. This schedule may shift/expand. Booking runs on a longer horizon than production: most of your week would go to advancing conversations on the target list. When news breaks, expect some fast turnarounds.
What we need
- An extensive, active network of relationships with senior political and national security figures, alongside strong connections to prominent business and technology leaders. You should bring established relationships that can translate into high-profile bookings from the outset.
- A proven track record of personally securing senior, hard-to-reach guests through your own relationships and outreach, particularly for extended interviews. Relevant experience may include broadcast journalism, think tank or conference programming, speakers bureaus, or political staff work.
- Strong relationships with the people who manage access to senior figures, including chiefs of staff, communications leads, agents, and trusted advisers.
- A strong understanding of the foreign policy and national security communities in Washington, London, and Brussels, and sound judgment about which guests can offer insight beyond prepared talking points.
- The ability to build a pipeline of confirmed guests well in advance while responding quickly to significant developments and unexpected interview opportunities.
- The confidence and persistence to open new doors through thoughtful, targeted outreach.
- Editorial judgment about who will make a compelling interview and attract an audience.
- Strong writing skills and the professionalism to represent One Decision credibly to senior figures and their teams.
- Excellent organisation and follow-through, with the ability to manage numerous booking conversations simultaneously and move them through to confirmation.
Helpful but not required
- Experience in a fast-growing media or podcast environment.
