About the role
The Head of Content (HOC) manages Novel’s Production department, working closely with the Chief Content Officer and Operations team to maximise innovation, efficiency and productivity.
The HOC will be the senior editorial representative of Novel on an evolving slate of audio and video podcasts ensuring each is of exceptional quality.
The HOC will also feed into the Development process, providing editorial and operational insight ensuring all projects are set up for creative and commercial success.

- Savvy Commercial awareness for the viability of ideas and deep knowledge of audio production
- Aware An understanding of how to navigate business affairs, legal considerations, compliance, IP and licencing
- Focused Target driven with the ability to prioritise, to maximise opportunities and minimise challenges whilst always looking to drive up standards
- Intuitive An experienced project manager with the ability to balance commercial objectives and creative production
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Management of the Production department - fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment
- Line management of senior editorial team
- Lead on all production resourcing & recruitment
- Lead on training, performance management and career progression within the production department
- Working with Senior Management to define and implement content-driven growth strategies
- Collaborate with other departments (Development, Operations, Branded) to ensure alignment
Editorial Leadership
- Senior editorial oversight on an evolving slate of projects - ensuring productions meet Novel’s high standards for quality, accuracy and creativity
Oversight of End-to-End Production Process
- Responsible for the operational efficiency of the production team, ensuring work of the highest quality is delivered whilst hitting profitability goals (in collaboration with Operations team)
- Work with Development team to ensure projects have a smooth transition into production
- Collaborate with Operations team on production budgets and schedules & oversee their implementation from project kick-off to delivery
- Oversight and maintenance of highest ethical and legal standards
- Ensure compliance with broadcasting standards and podcast platform requirements
- Client management post commission
- Oversight of comprehensive review processes for content clearance and rights management
- Stay ahead of industry trends, technological advancements and best practices in podcasting and digital media
