Making Contact is an award-winning, nationally syndicated radio show and podcast featuring narrative storytelling and thought-provoking interviews. We cover the most urgent issues of our time and the people on the ground building a more just world. We are part of the nonprofit International Media Project. Making Contact is aired on over 150 public and community radio stations and distributed as a podcast.

About the Position We are a small nonprofit newsroom that operates remotely. Current staff are based in the California Bay Area, Indianapolis, Indiana and Austin, Texas.
This is a remote US-based contract position estimated to take 20 to 25 hours per month.
The Digital Marketing Manager will play a critical role in amplifying Making Contact’s award-winning storytelling, expanding the program’s reach and inspiring community action. We are looking for someone that can own the entire journey of bringing episodes to life. Working closely with show producers and the Executive Director, they will develop and implement new data-forward strategies that will help take the 30-year old show into the future.
We believe representation is critical to achieving our mission, and seek to hire people who reflect the diversity of our audience and the stories we produce. Making Contact actively and enthusiastically supports applications from people of color, immigrants, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ people, and members of other groups historically underrepresented in the media. Our current staff is majority BIPOC queer women and nonbinary people.
Key Responsibilities Create compelling and detailed show notes that not only promote listenership and empower audience to engage in meaningful action Manage Making Contact’s profile pages on podcast and broadcast listening platforms, ensuring episodes are published and distributed digitally Create captivating social media, newsletter and blog content that showcases Making Contact’s weekly programming Design, execute and refine marketing strategies that help the program reach target listening audiences and donor base Identify podcast performance indicators and trends: own tracking, reporting, and analysis of these metrics Stay up to date with competitive trends, and maintaining advanced knowledge of the podcasting and media & entertainment industries
Qualifications Exceptional written English, grammatical and copywriting skills 5+ years of directly relevant, similar professional experience Excellent project management skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and collaborate with a distributed remote team Knowledge of journalistic ethics, standards and best practices Demonstrated results in creating and implementing digital marketing campaigns in the storytelling space with grasp of search engine optimization (SEO) Proven record managing and growing social media channels and email lists with up-to-date knowledge of latest digital trends, platform changes and updates Experience with digital advertising and paid media Proficiency with consumer-friendly graphic design programs such as Canva or Adobe Elements Proficiency with various digital platforms, including podcast hosting platforms and content management systems (preferably Libsyn and Wordpress)
