LightningPod is hiring an associate producer in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this part-time hybrid role, you’ll assist in the recording, editing, and promotion of several nonfiction podcasts.
About Lightning Pod LightningPod is a fast-growing independent podcast production company founded & run by Eric Johnson (former producer of Recode Decode with Kara Swisher). LightningPod helps individuals and businesses start podcasts of their own, or level up their existing shows. A brand of Bumblebee Media LLC, it’s based in San Francisco and works with clients worldwide including Greylock Partners (The Intelligent Marketer), Malwarebytes (Lock and Code), and MMA Global (Building Better CMOs).
Responsibilities Working alongside LightningPod founder Eric Johnson, you’ll learn the ropes of making successful podcasts for outside clients, receiving training and feedback as you perform the following core responsibilities:
- Editing, mixing, and mastering audio podcasts with 2+ participants, with an editorial focus on professionalism and adding value for our audiences
- Organizing, editing, and packaging video podcasts, with an eye toward creative & engaging visuals
- Producing short-form video clips, which will accurately represent the shows they’re from and will stand out above the noise of social media
- Managing the distribution of several audio & video podcasts, and clips of the same, to audio-focused podcasting apps, video platforms, and social media pages
You may also be trained in the following, depending on business needs and your own interest:
- Producing virtual recording sessions
- Engineering & producing live podcast recordings in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Copywriting of titles, descriptions, and social media content
- Guest booking & coordination
- Light administrative work, such as calendar & task management
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is eager to learn about the podcast industry & ecosystem
- Has strong written & verbal communication skills
- Will be open to feedback
- Is able to juggle multiple demanding assignments at once
- Can determine when they need to ask for help
- Holds themselves and their work to a high standard
- And who, ideally, has 1+ years audio & video editing experience
(Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Descript is helpful but not required.)
LightningPod is located in San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid role, and most of the work can be performed remotely, but is best suited for those with the ability to commute to San Francisco approximately 4-8 times per month. This role may expand to become full-time, and/or to require more in-person collaboration, at a later date.

Expected time commitment: Approximately 24 hours/week, typically working 9am-5pm PT on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with occasional flexibility for recording sessions on other weekdays
Expected compensation: $3,700/month (equivalent to about $37/hour)
Team structure: You’ll be our first part-time employee, reporting directly to LightningPod founder Eric Johnson, with regular feedback sessions
