Head of Audio
A full time position at Heritage Radio Network, Brooklyn NY, USA
Salary range: $70,000 to $80,000 (yearly rate) - subject to experience
HRN (Heritage Radio Network) is a nonprofit storytelling community shifting the way we think about food—empowering the next generation of food systems storytellers through unique education programs; and enlightening and entertaining listeners through food-focused podcasts.
We’re looking for a Head of Audio, who can guide HRN’s audio strategy—including 1) overseeing the recording and production of HRN podcasts; 2) leading the audio training for our education programs; and 3) helping to develop a long-term strategy for productizing, monetizing, and distributing audio content. In a rapidly changing audio environment, we are looking for someone who is interested in both hands-on and strategic work in the audio space.
What You’ll Do
- Engineer and produce remote and in-person podcasts, including recording, editing, mixing, mastering, uploading to our hosting platform, and executing steps for guest and underwriter follow up
- Spend 1-2 days per week in the studio in Bushwick, hosting recordings, maintaining the office, and keeping equipment cataloged and organized
- Coordinate with the Education team and help lead engineering education sessions, and support engineering of shows and products created by Education team
- Maintain and revise HRN best practices for remote, in-person, and video recordings
- Work with Engineer Project Manager to ensure underwriting placements are tracked and fulfilled
- Ensure engineers are updating Notion database with each published episode on a daily basis
- Develop and implement engineer training and related documentation
- Work with all Executive Director on new show recruitment, strategy, and execution
- Manage onboarding of new shows, and maintain proper documentation and notation
- Assist team with preparation and execution of live events, including podcast tapings, fundraising events, and broadcasts from food festivals and conferences
What You Bring
- Proficiency in Pro Tools, Reaper, and Descript
- Expertise in all aspects of audio engineering and production
- Ability to multitask, set priorities, and follow through in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency in food systems and nonprofit organizations a plus
- Must be NYC-based and willing to be in the Bushwick studio 1-2 days a week
