The Opportunity
Our Content team is growing and we're looking for a Director of Audio Production to join us in our mission to help people get their best sleep. As we expand our content offerings across the baby, kids, and adult markets, we want to provide a premium experience for our customers – one that brings joy, engagement, relaxation, and comfort.
The Director of Audio Production oversees audio production and engineering across our adult and kid businesses. This includes managing audio projects of various formats, leading a team of audio professionals, and ensuring the highest audio output quality for various uses including on-platform across our device family as well as off-platform audio.
The Director of Audio Production plays a crucial role in helping to shape our customer experience. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, creative vision, leadership skills, and project management abilities. This person will work closely with the team, overseeing production of talk content, scripted and unscripted storytelling, kids content, music, soundscapes, short form content, and programs of various formats and publishing cadences.
This role will report to the VP of Content. This person must be based in the United States or Canada. Hatch is based out of California, so this role would be asked to be available during PST/PDT hours.
What You’ll Do
Responsibility examples:
- Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and manage a team of audio producers, audio engineers, sound designers, and other creative professionals.
- Coordinate with other departments to align audio production with overall organizational goals.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide mentorship to team members.
- Collaborate with content development on content development and execution.
Project Management
- Oversee the planning and execution of audio production projects.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Manage project timelines and resource allocation.
Technical Expertise and Innovation
- Oversee various audio workflows across limited and ongoing projects.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in audio production.
- Integrate new techniques and technologies to enhance audio production quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex audio production challenges.
- Conform our content library for future hardware and device updates.
Quality Control
- Establish and maintain high standards for audio quality.
- Review and approve final audio mixes and edits.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and legal regulations.
Budget and Resource Management
- Track against the production budget.
- Allocate resources effectively to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and manage external partnerships.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with content development and editorial staff as well as other stakeholders on audio-related aspects.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Represent the audio production department in executive meetings.
- Integrate our audio production workflow into our CMS.
Within 3 Months:
- Get to know the Content team and the existing library of content, as well as our current production slate.
- Build relationships with colleagues in cross-functional teams from Marketing and Design.
- Become familiar with our strategies across baby, kids and adult offerings.
- Learn and improve upon our basic production workflows.
- Monitor latest trends and technologies in audio production.
- Integrate our audio production workflow into our CMS.
Within 6 Months:
- Represent the audio production perspective in select cross-functional work.
- Keep stakeholders updated on production work and timelines.
- Support cross functional work on our catalog and promotional improvements.
- Ensure that audio initiatives are being optimized for customer quality.
- Identify opportunities for audio innovation and experiences with sound and light.
After 1 Year:
- Work with the Content team to drive forward audio strategies across adult and kids businesses.
- Become a key driver of our customer experience.
- Contribute to future planning across hardware and software from a production perspective.
- Build innovative bedtime programming.
What You’ll Bring
