Project Summary Flatbush Cats, in collaboration with creative studio None Other, is producing an 8-episode podcast series alongside short-form video storytelling to support its mission in animal welfare and community engagement.
We’re hiring a part-time Field & Story Producer to support podcast and video content - capturing compelling moments in the field, conducting interviews, logging selects, and ensuring editorial materials are well-organized and delivered on time. This is a great opportunity for a field-savvy creative with strong instincts for narrative, an ear for real-world audio, and a deep sense of respect for community and cultural context.

Key Responsibilities

Field Producing: Story Capture for Podcast & Video
- Act as field producer for podcast and short-form video content
- Conduct interviews with community members, volunteers, and Flatbush Cats team
- Capture ambient sound, observational moments, and visual footage (B-roll) that enrich story texture
- Identify meaningful arcs and moments; flag potential mini-stories or short-form content
- Coordinate logistics, build trust with participants, and ensure clear, ethical consent practices
- Prepare field notes and summaries to support editorial scripting and edits

Post-Production Support for Podcast
- Log and timecode all raw audio from field sessions, interviews, and co-host recordings
- Pull selects that align with narrative beats, themes, and emotional tone
- Organize transcripts, selects, and notes according to existing file naming and workflow systems
- Collaborate with Podcast Producer and Executive Producers to meet weekly deliverables
- Ensure all materials are delivered on time to keep post-production on schedule
You Are
- A thoughtful interviewer with a strong sense of pacing, emotion, and human connection
- Comfortable working in unpredictable field settings and managing on-the-ground logistics
- Methodical and organized in your file management, logging, and communication
- Flexible, collaborative, and responsive—especially under changing or imperfect conditions
- Sensitive to the cultural context of Flatbush’s diverse community; you lead with empathy and care in both your interactions and your storytelling
- Passionate about community-based storytelling, animals, and accessible media
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience producing or assisting on podcasts, radio, or documentary projects
- Strong comfort conducting interviews and capturing sound-rich natural audio
- Familiarity with basic video capture (smartphone, mirrorless, DSLR), including framing, lighting, and sound
- Solid understanding of file management, metadata, and cloud-based collaboration tools
- Familiarity with TNR or a willingness to learn while in the field
- Competency with tools like Airtable, Google Drive, Slack, and Notion
- Basic editing experience in audio/video is a plus but not required
Podcast Development & Workflow Context This podcast is a branded content series grounded in Flatbush Cats’ mission and long-standing community presence. Episodes are developed collaboratively by Flatbush Cats and None Other and shaped by years of trust-building and local knowledge.
- Each episode begins with a detailed outline that guides production and post
- Fieldwork is structured around known stories and themes—this is not open-ended reporting
- The goal is to capture real-life moments that support and bring to life a pre-existing story structure
- The team works closely with known collaborators and subjects aligned with the values of the series
- This role captures relevant story tape within that framework, while being sensitive to community relationships and tone
Tools & Workflow
- Must own or be proficient with professional audio gear (e.g. Zoom H5/H6, lav or shotgun mic, headphones)
- Comfortable capturing video on smartphone or DSLR/mirrorless with good composition, lighting, and sound awareness
- Ability to organize files, log interviews, and maintain backups using shared cloud systems (Google Drive, Descript, etc.)
- Must adhere to established file naming, folder structure, and release documentation processes
- Familiarity with Airtable, Slack, and collaborative Google environments is essential

Pay Range

Lower hourly rates may apply in exchange for consistent part-time hours from July–October
