feral inc is an emerging independent production company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. We’ve been awarded funding from the BBC Radio & Music Indie Development Fund 2025. 

The aim of the funding is for feral inc to develop a strong and exciting slate of music ideas for network radio, and diversify our audio production portfolio out from the award winning drama we currently produce. 

As a core part of this we will focus on developing new presenter and production talent in Scotland for 1Xtra, with the aim of winning future commissions for strands, documentaries and specials.  

We’re now looking to recruit an enthusiastic, creative, friendly, organised Development AP (Assistant Producer) to join our team:

You will have a deep interest in / knowledge of the music scene in Scotland. You will have lived experience as a Black person, person of Black heritage or person of colour, and be based in Scotland. If you’ve worked in broadcast radio before that’s a bonus but not required. You may be a musician or already work in the music industry. You will be good at research, and at coming up with ideas. You will be able to write engaging pitches, or be keen to learn how to. Most important of all, you will have a passion for radio and an ambition to work on exciting music radio shows.

On the job training will be provided where helpful to progress your career and skills.

The position is part time, and we can be flexible, but it will involve around four days pcm for nine months (starting end February) on a freelance contract. The rate will be the Production Base Development AP rate of £150 per day. The job is mostly WFH though some in person meetings in Edinburgh / London may be needed (company to pay any expenses if needed.)
