CitizenRacecar seeks motivated producer/coaches this Fall to help teach the next generation of audio journalists!
CitizenRacecar is an industry-leading company that provides non-profit organizations, government agencies, and forward-looking companies around the country with production of emotionally engaging audio and video media.
In a unique program created in collaboration with one of the leading providers of after school programming in New York City, we’re teaching students the fundamentals of audio storytelling and empowering them to create their own podcast series.
We’re searching for audio journalism professionals in NYC to coach and supervise teams of kids at multiple schools around the city as they create their podcasts.
Job type: part-time/ temporary Rate: $30/hour, up to 30 hours per week during teaching period (October 15 - December 15). On-clock hours include training days, travel, teaching, prep, meetings, and story editing. Length of contract: Three-months September 15 – December 15, 2024, with possible renewal for the remainder of the school year
Duties include:
- Traveling to school sites all around the five boroughs with portable equipment.
- Inspiring kids with the possibilities of audio storytelling
- Training and supporting their use of recording equipment and text-to-audio editing software
- Processing recorded files for our post-production team to polish and publish
- Regular administrative meetings
Qualifications:
- Must have both audio production and storytelling experience and experience working with children.
- Must be either a US citizen or a resident with a green card and social security number.
- Must be based in the NYC metro area and willing to travel regularly to the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.
- Must pass New York City DOE and DOH background checks.
ABOUT THE FALL PODCASTING PROGRAM: Dates Our Fall audio program will run from October 15 - December 15th. During the month prior, September 15 - October 15th, we will have in-person training days, and coaches will need to go through a clearance process.
Class times / student ages / class sizes, etc.
- Coaches will meet with each group once a week and each class is an hour long.
- Depending on a coach’s schedule, there may be opportunities to work with multiple groups/schools over multiple days per week.
- The podcasting program will take place during after-school, and in some cases, during regular school hours.
- We will be working with 4th graders, middle school students, and high school students.
- Class sizes can be up to 15-20 students.
We are also looking for people who are interested in being a substitute audio coach. In this role, you wouldn’t have the same class(es) each week, but rather, would fill in as-needed for audio coaches who are sick and possibly team-teaching with coaches who have large groups.
