About the Role We're hiring a Writer to lead the strategy, voice, and execution of the Ark Media Newsletter. This is a high-autonomy role for a sharp editorial strategist who can ghostwrite across different voices and styles, curate essential updates across our programming, and infuse the newsletter with authority and personality. You'll own the April 2025 launch, defining the format, tone, and content strategy that makes this a must-read for our audience.
This is a part-time role (20-25 hours/week) You'll work closely with production teams and hosts to ensure the newsletter feels personal, essential, and distinctly Ark.
What You'll Do Newsletter Strategy & Production
- Own the weekly Ark Media Newsletter end-to-end: write, curate, edit, and publish on deadline.
- Lead the April 2025 launch: develop the newsletter format, editorial structure, and content strategy; design the layout and voice that positions Ark as essential reading.
- Curate weekly updates: distill the week's episodes, highlight key moments, preview what's coming, and surface the conversations shaping Jewish life and global affairs.
- Ghostwrite weekly columns: capture tone, cadence, and perspective authentically; deliver sharp, authoritative commentary on the week's most important developments.
- Edit contributions from hosts and contributors for clarity, voice, and impact.
- Bring Ark Media's editorial rigor to written content: ensure every issue feels personal, authoritative, and truth-seeking.
Editorial Leadership
- Build relationships with writers and contributors; assign, edit, and manage their work.
- Develop recurring features and standalone articles that deepen audience engagement.
Copy & Communications
- Write promotional copy for podcast episodes, special programming, and audience campaigns.
- Draft company announcements and community updates with precision and care.
- Edit and rewrite sponsorship copy as needed to align with brand standards and deliverability requirements.
- Consult on writing for the News Update show when additional editorial support is required.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of editorial experience, including proven expertise in ghostwriting, newsletter strategy, and audience-facing content.
- Strong understanding of newsletters as editorial products: what makes them essential, how format drives engagement, and why voice matters.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to shift tone and style to match different voices and formats.
- Deep knowledge of Jewish news, Israeli affairs, and the issues shaping global Jewish life; comfortable engaging with complex, fast-moving topics.
- News judgment: ability to curate, prioritize, and frame stories for an intelligent, engaged audience.
- Experience using newsletter platforms (Mailchimp) and Google Workspace.
- Self-directed and deadline-driven: you don't need hand-holding to ship quality work on time.
- Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills and editorial judgment under pressure.
Nice to Have
- Experience working on daily news or current affairs content; comfort with fast-paced news cycles.
- Background in podcast or audio storytelling; familiarity with the rhythms of weekly episodic content.
- Experience growing newsletter audiences and optimizing engagement metrics (open rates, CTRs, retention).
- Familiarity with email deliverability, A/B testing, and content performance analytics.
Success in the First 90 Days
- Lead the April relaunch: deliver a fully redesigned newsletter format, editorial strategy, and content structure that resonates with our audience.
- Bring Ark Media's editorial voice and rigor to the newsletter with consistency across all content.
- Publish weekly issues on time with sharp curation, ghostwritten commentary, and polished execution.
- Build trust with hosts and production teams as the go-to editorial voice for Ark's written content.
Working Conditions
- Remote, part-time role (20-25 hours/week).
- Flexible schedule with some time-sensitive deadlines around weekly newsletter publication and breaking news moments.
Compensation & Benefits This is a contract position with compensation of $4,000–$6,000 per month, determined based on experience and qualifications. As a contract role, this position does not include benefits.
