- Jun 12: iHeartRadio, Amazon Music and Acast's Podchaser also had this kind of spam in their directory, says the committee's report. Jellypod, an AI-generated podcast tool, is highlighted as one of the tools used to publish this content. We've covered efforts to remove spam shows like this in the past (like this, back in 2022, and the Podcast Index's work more recently). In our opinion, this isn't a Spotify problem - it's an industry-wide issue, that we should be working together to combat. It shouldn't be hard to automatically share potentially problematic feeds across the industry: and to highlight podcast hosting companies who fail to adequately moderate their users' content.
- Jun 4: US mobile operator TextNow has announced that they have added the iHeartRadio app to its "Free Flex" experience. TextNow gives you a free mobile plan with select apps zero-rated, including music and radio from the iHeartRadio app: however, podcasts in the app are not available zero-rated.
- Jun 3: Podcasts from iHeartRadio have been added to LG Radio+ on LG Smart TVs, as well as iHeart's radio stations. LG Radio+ will also be available on LG xboom speakers.
- Jan 9: Exclusive: The iHeartRadio app's forthcoming support for video podcasting will use the power of open RSS. Podcast publishers will not need to upload to another creator portal; and won't lose any revenue from the advertising in their shows. We also learn that it'll support the alternateEnclosure feature, meaning that podcasters can use audio and video in the same open RSS feed - making it easier to discover shows. We've a full Q&A with the iHeartRadio app team.
- Dec 23, 2025: The iHeartRadio app in the US is to support video podcasts in early 2026, the company has announced. "Creators will be able to upload their podcast episodes, including full-length video versions, through their standard RSS feeds for seamless distribution in iHeartRadio," the company says. This is properly open podcasting: video won't need to be hosted on iHeart itself. We've asked for technical details.
