- May 23: Apple unveiled some data from one of Goalhanger’s shows, The Rest is History. That show has 45,000 paying subscribers using Apple Podcasts, and it was revealed that 57% of them are on the annual plan, which is helpful for retention. Tony Pastor, the co-founder of Goalhanger, was quoted as saying “The key advantage of Apple Podcasts Subscriptions is how seamless the experience is for listeners.”
- May 22: Also released in London was the Top 25 Podcasts in the UK for Q1/25 from Edison Podcast Metrics. There’s no change in the top three shows (Rogan, TRIP, Diary of a CEO), with Goalhanger having four shows in the top ten.
- May 15: In the UK, audio and radio industry awards The ARIAS announced the 2025 winners. The awards are mostly for radio stations; but gold winners included the podcast Dead River from Audio Always for Best Commercial Partnership; and the inaugural UK Audio Brand of the Year 2025 went to podcast company Goalhanger, which produces (among many others) The Rest is Politics with Alastair Campbell (pictured above) and Rory Stewart. Tony Pastor, the company’s co-founder, told us that the award “proves there’s still a huge appetite for long-form, intelligent content delivered in an entertaining way.”
- May 9: How much did PodX Group pay for their acquisition of Lemonada Media)? Around $30mn, says Ashley Carman, in her newsletter Soundbite. - Apr 30: Goalhanger is celebrating hitting one billion streams of its content. The company says it’s the biggest independent podcast producer outside the US.
