- Jun 30: A working prototype has been put live by the Podcast Standards Project for a demo of a podcast hosted with HLS video - and discovered that it already works in Fountain and Truefans. The benefits with HLS streaming are that it may be significantly cheaper for podcast hosting companies, and better for users. It is included in the same RSS feed as the audio feed, so is backwards-compatible with existing players.
- May 19: Changes at Fountain, the podcast app, were announced on the Podcasting 2.0 podcast, including the launch of a new podcast hosting company, and monetisation options. We’ll cover the news in full later this week.
- May 7: Fountain v1.2 has been released, bringing a new design for library and content pages, a rebuilt audio engine, and a way to get summaries for shows.
- Dec 31, 2024: The Fountain podcast app has published its 2024 Rewind. The #1 show is Rabbit Hole Recap, a Bitcoin podcast. In 2024, listeners sent a total of $127,900 to creators using Fountain.
- Dec 2, 2024: The Podcasting 2.0 podcast this week goes into more detail about what they call the “walletpocalypse” - changes needed to future-proof streaming payments in podcasting apps. Oscar Merry from Fountain explains some of the reasons for the changes, and shared some demo code.
