Dec 11: There’s a new #1 podcast in Australia, according to the Triton Digital Podcast Ranker. Casefile True Crime, which last month switched to Acast, has beaten Hamish & Andy for the first time since February. ARN remains top publisher; SCA’s LiSTNR is top sales representative, but ARN is now less than 250,000 listeners behind it, and the recent addition of BBC shows should push it over.
Sep 17: BetterHelp is the #1 international advertiser in Australian podcasts, according to ARN and Magellan AI.
May 15: The Triton Digital Podcast Ranker is out for Australia. ABC News Top Stories is new at #3 (like NPR News Now, it’s the bulletin that also appears if you ask a smart speaker for the latest news). Everyone is a winner: ARN/iHeart is #1 publisher by listeners; LiSTNR/SCA is #1 sales representative, though ARN is close on its heels, and the ABC is #1 for total downloads.
May 13: Allowing the BBC to add advertisements on its podcasts in the UK would be “disastrous” for the industry, says an open letter from twenty companies, including podcast production firms. BBC podcasts are commercial-free in the UK; elsewhere, they are sold by Acast.
Apr 17: In the US, the IAB has released the IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report. Total internet ad revenue grew 7.3% in 2023. Internet audio, including podcasts, grew 18.9% to $7.2bn. We’ll learn the podcast revenue numbers on May 9.
