- Apr 10: For podcasts, YouTube has pulled far ahead of Spotify, with Apple Podcasts in fourth place behind Amazon Music, according to new global data from MIDiA. 62% of monthly active podcast users are using YouTube, compared to 47% for Spotify and around 25% for Apple Podcasts. The only surveyed countries that Spotify appears to lead in are Australia (but only very slightly), and in Spotify’s home country of Sweden, where it has a significant lead. The data also suggests that 36% of global consumers have no interest in podcasts at all.
- Mar 4: Amazon’s choice is a bit bewildering. For $11.99 a month, Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers get access to one free audiobook from Audible each month, but no Audible Originals podcasts. Or, Audible’s Premium Plus plan is $14.95 a month, which gives one credit a month for an audiobook (ie one audiobook a month, though these credits only expire after twelve months) but no music. And you can buy a different plan, still called Audible’s Premium Plus plan, for $22.95 a month which gives you two credits a month.
- Jan 21: JamPot Productions has hired Craig Strachan as CEO. Strachan was at Novel, Amazon Music and Sky; JamPot is a creator-led production company founded by Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo.
- Dec 5, 2025: Amazon Music released its 2025 Delivered recap earlier in the week. The company released data of the top podcasts for 2025, in a number of countries - we’ve a list of some of those countries here. In Japan, three of the top five were from TBS Radio.
- Oct 27, 2025: La Verdad Noticias carries some podcast consumption data from México - which says that 77.4mn people listen to music, podcasts or audiobooks on platforms like Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple or YouTube Music (which is 80% of all internet users). 14.3mn have paid subscriptions (two thirds of those with Spotify).
