Exclusive: Webby Awards - podcast highlights

• EXCLUSIVE: The Webby Awards will announce the winners of the 28th annual awards later today. Podnews can reveal that Julia Louis-Dreyfus will receive the Webby Podcast of the Year Award for Lemonada Media’s Wiser Than Me and her embrace of the internet as a platform for connecting generations through meaningful, funny and important conversations with unforgettable women. The Webby Podcast Company of the Year goes to iHeartMedia. We’ve details of 14 more awards, ahead of the release of the full list.

• Google appears to have set a date for Google Podcasts to be switched off in countries outside the US. A support document has been updated to say “Users outside of the United States will be able to use Google Podcasts until mid-to-late June 2024”, 9to5Google has spotted.

• Inside Podcasting, a podcast newsletter, has not published an issue since Mar 21. We understand that a majority of the editorial staff at the company have been laid off.

• Spotify is removing the separate login for “Spotify for Podcasters”, its podcast host. From May 14, you’ll be required to use a Spotify login, rather than your old Anchor/S4P one. The benefits are that you’ll be able to manage more than one podcast with the same login, and be able to invite teams.

• Veritonic has inked a deal with AppsFlyer, to allow the company access to real-time data on in-app conversion actions across mobile devices.

• Novel has a new CEO: Craig Strachan. He joins from Amazon Music, where he was Global Head of Podcast Industry. 1
• Luis Antonio Perez has (re)joined Colorado Public Radio as News Podcast Editor/Producer.

The Letter has returned for a new season from KSL Podcasts and the Webby Award-winning Lemonada Media. “Ripple Effect” explores the harrowing aftermath of the 1982 murder of two young fathers, where a letter from the confessed killer leads to an emotional journey of forgiveness. Through their stories, the podcast reveals how even the most intimate decisions can cause a ripple effect across lives and generations.
