Triton Digital have launched their Podcast Report for the US (formerly known as Podcast Ranker). The report has NPR’s News Now at #1, Stitcher’s My Favorite Murder at #2, and Westwood One’s Ben Shapiro Show at #3.
- Unlike competitor Podtrac, it’s based on average weekly downloads over a four-week period, rather than a calendar month. Different publishers are in each: Podtrac has iHeartMedia, NYT and PRX, while Triton lists Stitcher/Midroll and Entercom’s RADIO·COM.
-
Triton Digital’s US Podcast Report also lists the top 10 networks. NPR is at #1, Stitcher at #2, and RADIO·COM at #3. The numbers they give (average weekly users, and average weekly downloads) are not numbers that Podtrac publish, so we can’t compare them. However, Triton Digital and Podtrac claim significantly different numbers for active podcasts for Westwood One (Triton: 254; Podtrac: 101), as well as smaller differences for other publishers. We’ve asked Westwood One for comment.

Changing times, changing consumption

Using data from Megaphone, ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Australia claims “a significant increase and interesting changes” in podcast consumption. Particularly, it points to a new peak between 11am and 1pm.
-
Podtrac have also released their weekly podcast consumption data. This shows that podcast consumption continues to decrease, with sports being the hardest-hit.

“No commuting? No problem.” Digiday claims podcast revenue is still increasing. It, however, only quotes one company saying so - Megaphone, which says it “booked around twice as much new business as it lost in March”. Meanwhile, TechCrunch haven’t yet got the positivity memo, asking will podcast ad revenue bounce back after COVID-19 in a pay-walled article.
