Things to be thankful for in podcasting

• Be thankful that, thanks to the power of open RSS and the ease of publishing audio to hundreds of millions of people, podcasting continues to grow and succeed.

• If you’re a podcast host, thank Justin Jackson for posting where Transistor’s signups are coming from.

• Be grateful to Californian Governor Gavin Newsom, who gave an official pardon to Earlonne Woods, one of the hosts of Ear Hustle.

• Be thankful to Audacy, which is to produce a companion podcast to Severance with Ben Stiller and Adam Scott. Expect it in early January.

• Be thankful that you’re not Kim Williams, the Chair of the ABC in Australia, who called Joe Rogan “deeply repulsive” in what might charitably be called a slightly ignorant comment in a televised press conference. Williams, 72, who admitted not having listened to an episode, later went on one of his radio stations to complain about people’s reaction to his comments, which he called a ”huge pile-on”.

• Be grateful that ElevenLabs is launching a thing a bit like Google’s NotebookLM, but isn’t. It’ll help you make a multispeaker podcast from notes, videos or documents.

• Be thankful that, it turns out, Joe Rogan pays his guests the same as you probably pay yours.

• Be grateful that Pacific Content realise there’s more to podcasting than just the US - and the benefits from learning from overseas markets.

Be thankful that there’s another Kelce getting ready to podcast. Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce drops December 5th, and already is getting a bunch of people excited.
