*Our cover story:** One Strange Thing, in our podcast news, below.

  • In the UK, music streaming is still increasing - as are vinyl and cassette sales. Vinyl LPs now account for 18% of all albums purchased in the country. Perplexingly, more cassettes were sold in 2020 than in any year since 2003; though they’re still 0.6% of all sales though.

  • More head-scratching than “people are still buying cassettes”, music streaming company Tidal might be bought by… credit-card payment company Square.

  • In case you missed it, Podnews is now publishing both our daily podcast download stats and our daily RSS download stats. We’re using open data.

  • We’re also now surfacing podcasts that are using the new Podcast Namespace. This podcast is using the 'location’ tag (which we highlight at the top), and we detail all the tags used in the 'Information for Podcasters’.

  • We’re wondering why Apple’s own websearching bot AppleBot is consuming OPML files it’s discovering on the open web. The amount of traffic from AppleBot has, according to some, increased quite a bit over the last few months.

  • In the Podcasting Namespace, a discussion on whether a RSS tag to link to “where to discuss this episode/podcast” might be a good idea.
