The stars come out for Podfront

• Podfront, a preview of new shows from seven of the US’s largest podcast publishers, took place yesterday. A number of new shows were announced, and the event had high-profile guests including Hollywood actor Elle Fanning, comedian Sarah Silverman and NBA star JJ Redick, as well as podcast royalty like ABC News’s Brad Mielke, NPR’s Guy Raz, Wondery CEO Hernan Lopez, and Edison Research SVP Tom Webster.

• Is it that time of the month already? Podtrac have published their US Top Podcasts list for September; The Daily is still #1. In their US Top Podcast Publishers, NPR also remains the US #1 for audience; iHeartRadio, the #2, is measuring 44 new shows and remains the global #1 for downloads. • Speaking at a conference for Fast Company, Spotify’s Dawn Ostroff says that Spotify is using influencers to help them connect with podcast listeners. Meanwhile, Daniel Ek’s management style is the subject of an interview in The Observer Effect.

• In Australia, the ABC has announced that OzPod, the annual conference for the podcast industry in the country, will not be taking place this year. Instead, they’ve negotiated a discount for Podcast Movement Virtual, mailed to all past attendees; the ABC will be participating in panels during the event. The letter promises “future OzPod events”.

• “Podcasting is an entirely different medium from radio”, said Tony Moorey from the UK broadcaster Bauer Media in a panel session yesterday from RAIN, with broadcasters from across the world. It was co-moderated by Podnews’s Editor.

• Meanwhile, podcasting will kill radio, claims Acast UK’s Susie Warhurst, speaking at a UK webinar. That was denied by Phil Riley, a veteran broadcast executive, pointing at revenues for podcasting currently being less than 10% that of radio. He accused podcasting of being “a little too big for its boots”.

• Pocket Casts adds “inverse actions in multi-select mode” in their next release, making it easier to un-star, un-archive, and more, in bulk. It’s out now on iOS, and in open beta on Android.

• Podcast host RSS·com is beta-testing a new analytics dashboard.

• Luminary continues to announcing new, exclusive podcasts. British Villains will look at the Great Train Robbery of 1963 - the seizure of £55m ($71m) of cash (in today’s money) from a train heading from Glasgow to London. With promised “thick South London accents” in a “humorous and engaging evaluation” of the crime that left a train driver with brain damage, it’s being made by Ninth Planet Audio (based in Los Angeles CA), executive produced by Orange County CA-based William Green, and Los Angeles CA-based Western Sound.
