  • Exclusive CNN has launched CNN Audio, an internal podcast production and development team. The production group will report to Courtney Coupe, the VP of CNN Digital Productions. Dan Kantor, CNN’s new VP of Audio Product, is leading product, technology and partnership opportunities. “To start, our slate will focus on topical, historical and original serialized efforts,” says to a staff-wide email seen by Podnews.

  • Sounder - “the smarter way to podcast” - has launched. The podcast host offers free hosting, transcription, in-audio search, and analytics to help grow your audience; it also offers an audio search technology called P inpoint Audio Search to help searching through a publisher’s podcasts. It’s launched by former executives from Google, Spotify, WeWork and others.

  • AdsWizz, a digital audio advertising technology company, has launched PodScribe, a contextual ad-targeting solution for podcasts. Working with ComScore, the tool uses “advanced speech-to-text transcription technology to provide insight into podcast content, and enables advertisers to efficiently target by keywords, concepts, topics, and interests within the podcast”.

  • The Android app for iVoox, a popular podcast app in Spain, has been redesigned. New features include easier access to subscriptions, better association between radio stations and their podcasts, and popular lists.

  • In Australia, broadcaster NOVA Entertainment has formed a strategic podcast partnership with News Corp Australia, which owns a number of newspapers, Sky News, and the majority shareholder of pay TV operator Foxtel. Acast will become host of News Corp content, representing a loss for Whooshkaa. Lachlan Murdoch, the eldest son of Rupert Murdoch, is Executive Chairman of NOVA Entertainment and co-chairman of News Corp.

  • Podcast Movement Evolutions, a new event this February in Los Angeles CA, USA, has opened a call for speakers. You can also register for both events.

  • In England, the North Yorkshire market town of Thirsk will be home to the Deer Shed Festival, a podcasting festival with 27 live podcasts. There will also be a pop-up bar, and home-made food. (While in Thirsk, also visit The Golden Fleece, where Podnews’s Editor had a few nice meals in the mid 1990s).
