Like Clubhouse, but it records: Spotify Greenroom launches

• Spotify has released the Spotify Greenroom app. The app, similar to Clubhouse or Twitter Spaces, includes recording capabilities. It’s available on iOS and Android. We’ve added support for it in our Podevents website.

• Sony Music Entertainment has acquired Somethin’Else, the UK’s largest independent podcast and audio producer and the BBC’s biggest independent producer of programmes.

• First look: Take a deepdive into SGrecast: Robert Minnix takes Sounds Profitable’s Bryan Barletta round their tool to create, manage and monetize your podcasts. It’s like your own guided view of what it can do.

• Podpage has released v2.0 of their podcast website tool. The release adds advanced monetization tools, multi-user and multi-podcast accounts, and a redesigned user dashboard - with in-built Podnews updates, too.

• As we reported earlier this month, Facebook is launching podcasts next week. The Verge links to the terms and conditions, which Nathan Gathright has analysed. It’s invite-only for now; no, Podnews’s page hasn’t been invited. :sadface:

• Cleanfeed, a remote audio tool, has added 'aux outputs’, enabling more advanced routing of different audio channels.

• In Australia, SCA has partnered with the BBC to add full shows to their LiSTNR app. Many shows contain music, and are available in the BBC Sounds app (but not as podcasts).

• Sean Rameswaram has been promoted to Creative Director of Vox Audio. The company is also hiring for three new positions.

• SXM Media has announced it is using Podscribe to allow advertisers to target podcast content at the episode level, in a brand-safe way.

Fun with Apple’s new paid subscriptions

• How do subscription-only shows appear in the Apple Podcasts API? Here’s Mamá Preparada, and here it isn’t in Apple’s API (it returns nothing). Nor does it appear in search.
• How do shows with extra paid episodes appear in Apple Podcasts? Here’s Birthful, with play buttons for the free stuff, but not for paid-for shows. Our page, powered by Apple’s API finds the show, but naturally doesn’t see the paid-for shows.

An episode of Background Briefing from ABC Australia won a Walkley Award for journalism. Mridula Amin won the longform feature award for The hidden park of last resort. She was also separately the winner of the Young Australian Journalist of the year.

One Hundred Percent is a new podcast from Wondery and Marcus Lemonis, “a mix of a masterclass, a cocktail party, and a Sunday drive all wrapped up into 30 minutes with a goal to reveal the secrets to success to listeners.” It launches early on Wondery+ (which doesn’t appear, yet, to be available on Apple Podcasts paid subscriptions).

The Witness: In His Own Words was released last month in Ireland, reaching #1 in Apple Podcasts and #3 in Spotify. The podcast focuses on Joseph O’Callaghan, who’s testimony helped convict two drug-dealing gangsters for murder, becoming the youngest person ever to enter the Witness Protection Programme in Ireland.
