  • Spotify, the second largest podcast platform, is attracting criticism for hosting on its platform The Alex Jones Show Podcast from the conspiracy theorist and far-right broadcaster. Jones has had some material removed from YouTube, and Spotify recently removed some music as part of its Hateful Conduct policy. The Alex Jones Show podcast is also hosted on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts, and two further podcasts featuring Jones are also available. Meanwhile, in subscriber numbers, Spotify is pulling away from Apple Music.

  • Google Podcasts appears to have added landing pages for non-Android devices that follow a Google Podcasts link.

  • Edison Research shares some of the numbers and data that Tom Webster discussed at Podcast Movement, focusing on why people don’t listen to podcasts.

  • International Podcast Month has been announced for September: the event involves over 75 podcasters, and is “a wonderful opportunity for us to cross-promote, celebrate each other, and share the love of podcasting with the world”. • In Canada, CBC News has announced that it is to release a daily podcast: “an essential daily download that gives listeners a shortcut to deeper understanding of the news”. The podcast, as yet un-named, will be hosted by Jayme Poisson, an investigative reporter who joins the broadcaster from the Toronto Star. Its competition is Rogers’s The Big Story and Corus’s This is Why.

  • Daily podcasts are also the focus of HotPod 171; Quah points out that the Washington Post is advertising for a daily podcast host.
