Former Pacific Content staff launch a sequel

• After the company closed earlier this year, two former Pacific Content leaders have officially launched a new podcast production studio, named Sequel. Tori Allen and Andy Sheppard recruited former Pacific Content colleagues and started production in July; Sequel will serve existing and new clients.

• “Without diversity, podcasting is incomplete and unsustainable.” The founder and CEO of Afros & Audio, Talib Jasir, has penned an open letter to the industry , asking for investment and support. “The podcast industry is still being built, brick by brick, and like any structure, if you neglect a crucial part, the entire foundation can collapse.” The 6th Annual Afros & Audio Festival is in mid-October.

• The shortlist has been announced for the Independent Podcast Awards 2024. Excitingly for us, the Podnews Daily is nominated in the Business & Money section; the Podnews Weekly Review is nominated in the News & Politics section.

• At an upfronts day today, Australian women’s media brand Mamamia announced a content planning tool for advertisers called The Daily Dial; the launch of a brand for Gen Z called KNOW; and the expansion of the company’s edutainment strategy into new categories.

• The schedule has been published for the 2024 asi International Radio & Audio Conference in Venice on Nov 6. Session 2 includes a number of speakers about podcasting, including Rockie Thomas from Soundstack, Daryl Battaglia from Triton Digital, and our Editor, James Cridland.

• The Irish Pod Awards have been created as a response to Haymarket’s Irish Podcast Awards not taking place this year. You can enter here.
