  • Using a little music that you know you shouldn’t? Pex, which automatically scans social media for unauthorised use of commercial music, is now automatically scanning podcasts for music. It can identify clips as short as half a second. (Here’s our guide on how to use commercial music in your podcast).

  • The nominees for the iHeartMedia Podcast Awards 2020 are out. “In addition, the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards will present three Icon Awards to pay tribute to the creators, organizations and podcasts that have made groundbreaking contributions to podcasting’s expanding role in today’s popular culture.”

  • Magellan have published their first list of top podcast advertisers in the UK. The top three UK brands are Sky, BT and the UK government; the top three overall also include Norton 360 and SimpliSafe.

    • The top 15 podcast advertisers in the UK, downloaded via a UK IP address, includes two companies who do not operate in the UK and who cannot sell UK people anything: ButcherBox, a meat delivery service only available in mainland US, and RocketMortgage, a service that is similarly US-only. What a waste.

  • BFM, Malysia’s business radio station (and a podcast leader in the country) have signed with Triton Digital.

  • Microsoft have launched a podcast. “The In Culture podcast brought to you by Microsoft is a platform for musicians, artists, fashion designers, gamers, and creators to tell their stories and how they have harnessed Microsoft’s technology to make strides in their prospective artistic fields!” Interesting to note, no prominent “subscribe with Apple Podcasts” link on the podcast’s homepage.   • Zvook, an AI platform matching brands with podcasts based on content, has launched their early beta. With 500,000 podcasts in their database, they’re now encouraging podcast hosts to claim their podcast, so that the company can reach out if they find a suitable brand match.

  • The National Lampoon Radio Hour podcast has revealed its launch date: the comedy sketch show returns on December 19.

  • iVoox has partnered with Comedy Central to offer a podcast version of its Spanish Comedy Channel content.

  • It’s nearly the season of predictions - but Podigee’s Mati Sojka is early: writing five things that will change in podcasting over the next few years.
