Podcast Day Asia announced for September in KL

• Podcast Day Asia has been announced as taking place on Sep 3 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Programmed by Podnews, the day includes a keynote from NPR’s Emily Kwong, as well as experts from across the region. Tickets are just $99.

• The first annual Women in Podcasting Awards has been announced. You’ve until 1 August to enter; there are only fifty nominations per category.

• In the UK, a General Election has been called for July 4. Goalhanger’s The Rest Is Politics podcast will be broadcast on Channel 4 television during the campaign, and the hosts will be part of the TV coverage that night alongside Emily Maitlis from The News Agents.

• Blogging platform Micro.blog has launched “audio narration”. “There’s no substitute for the human voice”, says developer Manton Reece: the new feature adds a “listen” button where you can hear the author narrate the blog post to you. They will also appear in the blog’s “podcast” RSS feed (the system already acts as a podcast host).

• In San Francisco, KQED is to eliminate 34 positions, and close the Rightnowish podcast.

• Podcast hosting company RSS.com is officially LIT. The company has launched live podcasting, which is supported in a number of Podcasting 2.0 apps. If you’re following a show, you can get alerts as to when that show is recording an episode live, and listen in the app.

• Buzzsprout has launched an audio backup feature, allowing you to download all your audio (and artwork) as a big ZIP file for safekeeping.
