Podcast Day Asia has been announced as taking place on Sep 3 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Programmed by Podnews, the day includes a keynote from NPR’s Emily Kwong, as well as experts from across the region. Tickets are just $99.

The first annual Women in Podcasting Awards has been announced. You’ve until 1 August to enter; there are only fifty nominations per category.

In the UK, a General Election has been called for July 4. Goalhanger’s The Rest Is Politics podcast will be broadcast on Channel 4 television during the campaign, and the hosts will be part of the TV coverage that night alongside Emily Maitlis from The News Agents.

Blogging platform Micro.
blog has launched “audio narration”. “There’s no substitute for the human voice”, says developer Manton Reece: the new feature adds a “listen” button where you can hear the author narrate the blog post to you. They will also appear in the blog’s “podcast” RSS feed (the system already acts as a podcast host). -
In San Francisco, KQED is to eliminate 34 positions, and close the Rightnowish podcast.
