The Australian part of Podcast Day 24 will be an in-person event in Sydney NSW on June 7, it’s been announced. The conference announced its first set of speakers this morning; it’s part of a 24-hour event in Australia, Europe and North America.

A tool to share audio on social media, Wavve has been acquired by Calm Capital. The team write about the background to the deal, Calm Capital have also written about it, as has Wavve’s new CEO, Jeff Dolan. No terms were disclosed.

The new Apple Podcasts iOS 14.5 app is not following Apple’s specification around the
itunes:title
tag, and seems to ignore the tag completely. This is leading to shows displaying with double episode numbers. Those examples are hosted on Libsyn and Captivate, who both follow that specification correctly. A new audio drama marketplace, Dramafy has put out a call for submissions. A subscription service, it offers content creators a revenue sharing model based on listens. It launches in June.

Clubhouse has introduced their Creator First Finalists, shows to be hosted live on Clubhouse.

In the US, iHeartMedia has launched its own Private Marketplace, allowing advertisers to buy shows across the iHeartPodcast Network. Using Voxnest, it allows geo-targeting and “psychographic” targeting (only want “intrepid” listeners? Or “conquerors”?) We wonder if it can also target people who’ve had their first COVID-19 vaccination and are feeling a bit sleept.

The makers of Obsessed with… Line of Duty, a chart-topping accompaniment podcast to a popular UK police drama, are speaking at MIC’s Podcast Club (a virtual event) on Wednesday May 12. It’s free to attend.

Apple Podcasts Connect still appears to be unavailable for many users. As one example, Quill point out on Twitter that they’ve been locked out for two weeks. Apple have no statement and have made no public acknowledgement of any issues. In Podland podcast later today, James Cridland, Podnews’s editor, suggests that Apple are still treating podcasting as a fun hobby rather than a $1.4bn global business.
