Podcast Movement 2024 ends in Washington DC

• Podcast Movement posted the highlights reel from the event which concluded yesterday. Good news: no Podnews Editor in this reel. Good news also: puppies!

• Podcast company Listen have announced two new visualised shows: Pop Top 10 and a new season of The Traitors Uncloaked. Both shows are designed to be listened-to or watched.

• Gaana, the Indian podcast and music app, was acquired by ENIL, the owner of Radio Mirchi, it’s emerged. It was majority owned by Times Internet, the digital arm of The Times of India; ENIL is also a subsidiary of Times of India, which possibly explains a low sale price of Rs 25 lakh - just $29,800 - as well as the fact that Times Group is currently splitting in two. It’s said to be a distress sale, since Gaana is loss-making, and needs regular cash injections: ENIL gave Gaana Rs 15 crore ($1.79mn) in Q1/24, and Gaana is currently being run by ENIL’s CEO, Yatish Mehrishi. Tencent was another shareholder; it’s unclear whether they still are.

• The London Podcast Festival have announced more shows including the Frank Film Club, co-hosted by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, Hannah Marie Williams and Lowri Roberts, and the very first live edition of Dish from Waitrose, the chart-topping podcast hosted by broadcaster Nick Grimshaw and Michelin star chef Angela Hartnett.
