There are now over one million podcasts

• There are now more than one million podcasts to choose from in Apple Podcasts, according to the My Podcast Reviews service. The number ticked over to over a million on Saturday. 46% of those podcasts have published at least one episode in the last ninety days.

  • The number of new shows has been exponentially increasing over the past year. This graphic shows that the number of shows in Apple Podcasts increased by over 60,000 for the first time last month.

• Transcription service otter·ai has altered its free plan. The import feature is now available for paying customers only: Basic Plan users get three trials of imports per account. The Basic Plan continues to offer free recording and Zoom-syncing, to a maximum of 40 minutes per transcription.

• “Don’t talk about your podcast before everyone can subscribe and listen to an episode.” Wise advice from Matt Deegan, who writes how to launch a podcast.

• A MacOS tool for checking your podcast’s loudness, r128x, has had an update. We’ve added it to our page about loudness and LUFS.

• Due to take place at the BBC Radio Theatre last month, the Young Audio Awards ceremony will be streamed live from 3pm on May 7. The awards judge radio and audio entries from under-18s.

• Acast has hired two new Group Sales Leads to their team in Australia: Adam King (Acast London, Spotify), and Liam Daly (News Corp). The podcast company is also represented by NOVA Entertainment in the country.

Southern Cross Austereo, an Australian radio and TV broadcaster, has launched a new daily news podcast, called The Briefing. It’s being hosted by four award-winning journalists from the ABC, News Corp, Network Ten and Nine Networks.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar is the next guest on Joe Biden’s podcast “Here’s the Deal,” which some commentators suspect may be part of a Vice Presidential pick.

The etiquette and manners podcast Were You Raised By Wolves? was features by the Los Angeles Times over the weekend.
