Should you charge guests to appear on your podcast?

  • Super Joe Pardo writes a blog post explaining why he now charges his guests to come onto his podcast. His podcast is The Business Podcast: if you travel a lot, you’ve probably spotted similar programs where guests are charged to appear.

  • iOS11 is now in use on 65% of all iOS devices. (As a reminder: Apple’s podcast stats only works on this version of iOS, and only for listeners to the Apple Podcasts app.)

  • Another course in podcast production, this time at Trinity University in San Antonio TX, USA. Meanwhile, at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, they’ve launched a podcast about LGBTQ media and culture.

  • The New Zealand Herald discovers podcasting, interviewing one of the founders of the Boomsday Prepping podcast (a “Survival Guide for Baby Boomers”).

  • HBO launch a new podcast called Where do you Exist?, an accompaniment to their TV series Here and Now.

  • Hollywood is obsessed with podcasts, says The Guardian, highlighting a number of the recent deals to turn podcasts into movies or TV shows. “Television is more democratic and less risk-averse than it’s ever been, and podcasts are presently a hotbed of the sort of gripping, anthologized storytelling that … would seem readily adaptable to the screen”.

  • The ABC launch a new comedy podcast, Positions Vacant, asking celebrities embarrassing questions.
