Brené Brown gets two Spotify exclusives

Spotify/Parcast has announced a new partnership with Brené Brown. Her current show Unlocking Us will become a Spotify exclusive from January; Dare to Lead is a new exclusive podcast from Spotify, “a mix of solo episodes and conversations with change catalysts, culture shifters, and as many troublemakers as possible”, that launches next month. The writer and thought-leader has also collaborated on a Yacht Rock playlist.

NPR has released The NPR Podcast Report, containing data and case studies about the broadcaster’s podcasts. For Q2 2020, weekly podcast users are up 20% year-on-year, and downloads have risen 26%. Podcasts from NPR and public radio account for 32% of time spent listening to podcasts in the US, according to the report, which says sponsors see their brand awareness increase by 19%.

Spotify is testing listener polls. The feature is live on Spotify exclusive shows like The Rewatchables to most users. Like video and sharing cards, it appears to be another proprietary feature for Spotify shows only.

After leaving Spotify on Sep 19, after a two-hour rant on Aug 26, Joe Budden has announced The Joe Budden Network. The first non-Budden show will be See The Thing Is, hosted by Bridget Kelly, Mandi B and Olivia Dope. “Not sure what they’ll say because I’m staying outta women’s business lol”, says Budden, adding that the show will be “on most DSPs”.

Spotify has also launched Your Daily Drive in the UK. We see content in there from The Times, talkSPORT and The Evening Standard; we’re told The Economist, the FT and The Smart 7 are also included. The BBC, Global Radio and Bauer Media are not taking part.

Jon McTaggart, the President and CEO of APMG, is to step down. APMG is the parent company of APM, American Public Media, and MPR, Minnesota Public Radio. The company has been criticised recently for race and gender issues. McTaggart claims his decision to step down is unrelated.
