Audioboom no longer to take-over Triton Digital: requires urgent funding

  • BREAKING: The Audioboom takeover of Triton Digital is no longer going ahead. The note released to the markets notes a £1m loan that Audioboom got in February, says Audioboom only has “sufficient working capital for a further period of up to four weeks from today’s date”, that the withdrawl will cost Audioboom a further £700,000 in a break clause, and that its “financial position remains uncertain”. The note also warns of a possibility of winding up the company. Shares in Audioboom remain suspended. Audioboom’s also announced they have a new CFO, Brad Clarke.

  • Westwood One Podcast Network have launched Stokes & Friends: KPOP with T.H.I.S. Podcast - a podcast for Korean pop. Season One kicks off with a seven episode spotlight (one for each member) on the award-winning act, BTS. It’s hosted on Omny Studio.

  • RAIN reports on our story, yesterday, of buying your way into the Apple Podcast Charts. They quote other methods to hijack algorithms. Meanwhile, in a closed Facebook group, a person familiar with the story claims that Apple are identifying podcasts who use this service and permanently banning them: a request for more information, however, hasn’t been responded to. Another correspondent has noted the opportunity for mischief: a jealous podcaster could spend $5,000 to use this service for a competitor, and get them banned. We’ve heard nothing from Apple.

  • Acast and Wisebuddah have announced Launchpod, which they say is the UK’s first ever large-scale podcast competition, in a bid to find the UK’s new podcast star.

  • eMarketer has produced a new report, Podcasting in Canada: Listening Growth and the Opportunities for Brands. The latest edition of their podcast, Behind The Numbers, also highlights this area.

  • Personal Audio LLC, who claimed a podcast patent which was subsequently challenged by EFF, has received a final rejection from the Supreme Court. The case is now finally over, and thanks to the EFF, these patent claims are no longer valid. Here’s where to donate to the EFF.

  • CNBC report on a podcast from American Airlines, intended for its 120,000 employees but also available publicly. Tell Me Why started being posted in January, and get 12,000 plays (2,000 from the public).

  • Basecamp post three tips for launching and running a successful podcast.

  • New York-based MouthMedia Network launch #MOMSGOTTHIS, focusing on young mothers with high powered careers. It is the first show with a daily format for the network.
