Radio Academy ARIAS names Goalhanger Best Audio Brand

• In the UK, audio and radio industry awards The ARIAS announced the 2025 winners. The awards are mostly for radio stations; but gold winners included the podcast Dead River from Audio Always for Best Commercial Partnership; and the inaugural UK Audio Brand of the Year 2025 went to podcast company Goalhanger, which produces (among many others) The Rest is Politics with Alastair Campbell (pictured above) and Rory Stewart. Tony Pastor, the company’s co-founder, told us that the award “proves there’s still a huge appetite for long-form, intelligent content delivered in an entertaining way.”

• Online radio streamer AccuRadio is seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after failing to reach agreement with music royalty company SoundExchange. After almost twenty-five years, AccuRadio has paid over $13.5mn in royalties to Sound Exchange..

• The popular audio show Twenty Thousand Hertz is coming to YouTube. Dallas Taylor writes: “This is not a video version of the podcast. It is its own thing fully designed for YouTube. The podcast will remain beautifully crafted and story-driven. The YouTube series will complement it by exploring sound in ways that have never been seen before.”

• Acast launched “talent-voiced ads”. Brands can now pay to have Acast talent voice their scripted ads, programmatically run across Acast’s network of more than 140,000 shows.
