Apple buys Pop Up Archive to bolster podcast search

Apple buy audiosear.ch, the podcast search engine, and owner Pop Up Archive. This is announced in HotPod 143. The audiosear.ch website is now closed.

  • A small amount of excitement earlier, as podcasters were unable to log into Apple Podcast Connect for a time. Were we to get those podcast stats promised in June? No; it was just a piece of maintenance, it appears.

  • We’re hearing that ABC Audio Studios have a shortlist of podcasts for their one million dollar podcast fund, and have contacted some podcasters with the news.

  • Libsyn has added an “add to Spotify” button in their dashboard. It’s next to a similar button for Google Play Music and iHeartRadio.

  • The IAB in the UK announces acast and Triton Digital have also joined as members.

  • Founder of comedy podcast network shares his secrets to online riches - a News Corp story focuses on Melbourne’s “Sanspants Radio comedy network”, which is now monetising with acast: they claim to have three members of staff and “another ten casuals”; they also crowdfunded and did a “sold-out tour of the UK”.

  • Brittany Hoffman shares What I’ve Learned From Starting a Podcast, including consistency, distribution, and how to be a good interviewer.

  • Marvel launches a scripted podcast, The Long Night. It’ll be available exclusively on Stitcher Premium until September.

  • A profile of Audm, a paid service that narrates popular magazine and newspaper articles. They have ten announcers.

  • Larry King is back - as a podcast host. He’s being paid in shares of Hear Me Out, an app that allows you to share up to 42 seconds of audio.
