Anchor adds remote-recording features to its app

• Anchor’s iOS and Android app has been updated with new remote recording features, dubbed Record with Friends 2.0. It’s aimed to make it easier to record guests or multi-hosted podcasts.

• A report in 9to5Google claims that Google is to release a Google Podcasts app for iPhone. It’s based on a piece in Engadget, which has been removed, 9to5Google notes, because of “a broken embargo”. The app will be here, according to the story: at publication time, that’s a 404 error.

• Kyrie has launched podcast landing pages for podcasters. They offer discussions, direct messages to podcast hosts, and a way of joining a mailing list, designed to foster a community of listeners.

• Deezer has redesigned its podcast experience.

• Magellan has looked at which podcast advertisers are spending more, and less, because of the coronavirus. Travel advertising is down 73%, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Meanwhile, Triton Digital says that news/talk radio’s share of streaming has grown by 14%.

• The Global Player, run by the UK’s largest radio broadcaster, has added a set of third-party podcasts “for children and stressed out parents”. The UK has temporarily suspended school for all except essential workers.

• Radiodays Europe’s Podcast Day has been postponed. An annual conference, now based in London, is now slated to take place on October 26th. Podnews’s Editor, James Cridland, will be one of the speakers (assuming the world has stopped falling in by then).

• The New York Times has purchased Audm, a service that transforms longform articles into audio. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

• The Independent Podcast Virtual Conference 2020 has published its programme. It’s on March 28-29th.

• Ira Glass seemingly recorded this week’s This American Life in his closet, having taken the time to get dressed in a suit, but having forgotten to wear shoes or socks. U okay, hun?
