Al Jazeera launches a podcast network, plus premium podcast pricing pretty popular

  • Al Jazeera (Doha, Qatar) launches Jetty, a new podcast network. NiemanLab reports that it plans to “groom some new voices and bring more perspectives to the table and embrace diversity in all sorts of ways”. (As a matter of interest, Al Jazeera streams on YouTube in 1080p).

  • Wonder how to monetise your podcast? So has Cameron Reilly, writing a piece in Medium about Podcast Pricing Bands - premium subscriptions appear to work. “40% of our revenue came from people choosing the higher payment options”.

  • Event: The craft of storytelling in podcasts, Melbourne VIC, Australia, November 14th. Speaker: Anna Priestland (Researcher and writer, Casefile podcast).

  • Insider Louisville covers Podchaser, the 'IMDb of podcasting’. Founder Bradley Davis, “who still has a day job in sales”, reports a flurry of support; and is looking for investment.

  • Noted: Nevertheless, a podcast celebrating women transforming teaching and learning through technology.

  • In Wrexham in the UK, the Daily Post covers a farmer making a podcast, Rock & Roll Farming. “The podcast, which features a different farmer or industry representative each week, now gets more than 1,000 downloads per episode.”

  • Recording a podcast with multiple USB microphones. It can be done, according to this reddit thread. “This is a horrible, unstable and frustrating road to travel down,” cautions one redditor. Another adds that it “is not a good idea”.

  • In Reno NV, USA, the University of Nevada’s Innevation Center (and yes, we’ve spelt that correctly), opens a podcasting studio. $17/hour, or between $100-$150 a month to be a member.
