Newsworthy, we think, that in a heavily contested category, Heinous – An Asian True Crime Podcast has been nominated for The Ambies. The show is made by 1 Up Media and MediaCorp in Singapore, and is the only production made outside of the US to have secured a nomination in the category.

Trixie Mattel has been announced as the host of The Ambies, the Awards for Excellence in Audio. They’ll take place on Mar 26 at the JW Marriott LA Live, as well as online.

The winners of the Ambies Awards were announced at The International Theater in Las Vegas, hosted by Larry Wilmore. The awards for excellence in audio, the winner of the podcast of the year went to Chameleon: Wild Boys.

Only a week after The Ambies, The Webbys have decided to launch their own podcast awards. It'll be called The Signal Awards, and set to take place in January 2023. This is the normal date for the iHeartPodcast Awards, and we'd note that Anna Hossnieh, Executive Producer at iHeartRadio is one of the judges. :hmm:

Amazon Music and Wondery have closed a deal with Audacy's Pineapple Street Studios. The podcast production company will produce at least four new shows. It comes hot on the heels of 9/12 winning three awards, including Podcast of the Year, at The Ambies.

The Ambies, the awards from The Podcast Academy that celebrate excellence in podcasting, took place last night. BREAKING: The Podcast Academy has just announced that Serial will be awarded the Governors Award, recognising the impact a podcast or individual has had on the industry. Co-creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder will accept the award at The Ambies next Tuesday.

What's an indie podcast? In The Ambies, Aftershock has been nominated in the Best Indie Podcast category. The show was announced in July last year as a co-production with the very un-indie iHeartMedia. Indie podcaster Maribel Quezada Smith is disappointed, saying "The intention behind creating an indie category is to amplify and celebrate the work of indie creators".

Congratulations to The Ambies® for a successful US trademark registration. Registered on Jan 18 this year, it took one year, five months to get through the system. The ceremony is on Mar 22.

Fresh from its success at The Ambies, Wondery launches The Vaping Fix today: a six-part miniseries uncovering the rise of vaping and how Juul became a multibillion-dollar company that may have hooked a new generation.

In an award ceremony live from Los Angeles, California, The Ambies were announced last night, the first podcast awards from The Podcast Academy. The podcast of the year went to Wondery's Dying For Sex. The awards seemed to be a streaming success, too, with 25,000 people watching at peak. From the full list of winners, Amazon's Wondery was the winning studio of the night, with five awards announced; Crooked Media getting four, and QCODE with three. The podcast with the biggest award haul was Wind of Change, with three separate wins.

The Podcast Academy's first annual awards, The Ambies, will be hosted by Cameron Esposito. They'll be streamed live on Sunday May 16, from 7.30pm Eastern.

The Podcast Academy announced that the first-ever Governors Award at The Ambies will be awarded to the independent podcast WTF with Marc Maron. Marc Maron and co-creator and EP Brendan McDonald will accept the accolade during the awards on May 16.

Amazon don't get Wondery's current CEO, Hernan Lopez: a charismatic leader, he'll step down as the deal is done, saying "I will be transitioning out of the company to focus my attention on my recently announced Hernan Lopez Family Foundation, which is committed to addressing diversity in leadership both from the demand side as well as the supply side." Lopez has been keen to add Hollywood-style razamatazz to the industry, working to launch The Podcast Academy earlier this year, which is focusing on their own awards ceremony The Ambies.
