Our Editor James Cridland shared the results of the Podnews Report Card at Podcast Movement. We'll have this data in full in Monday's Podnews; but overall, Apple has increased its lead over Spotify as the most favoured podcast platform used by podcast creators. YouTube is eagerly awaited by many publishers; and Google Podcasts saw a disappointing fall in ratings from those in the industry.

Spotify revealed their latest interface, a vertically-scrolling way to discover new shows (and music, including video clips). Spotify has also unveiled Autoplay for Podcasts - when a podcast ends, another relevant episode that fits your taste will automatically play. (As our Editor will reveal later on Thursday at Podcast Movement, Spotify has the lowest figure for per-person podcast consumption in the industry: these automated plays will significantly change that).

(The weekly listening figure is now 26%).

Podsights attribution will not be available to advertisers attempting to run campaigns on Libsyn's AdvertiseCast from Oct 11. Podnews understands a notice of termination was sent after a Libsyn employee accosted a female Podsights staff member at a virtual event in April, but the banner only appeared after Podsights was called "malicious" and "ignorant" by the same person, Libsyn's Rob Walch, during a session at Podcast Movement. Walch accused Podsights of "f#cking this community" in an aggressive speech that we're told is part of a pattern of targeted behaviour against Podsights.

Google Podcasts Developer Fun Corner: We went digging through the Google Podcasts code, hoping to find a way of finding additional search operators, like searching by publisher, perhaps. We couldn't find that, but we could find language to help people subscribe to podcasts, so perhaps that functionality is coming soon. However, the Google Podcasts code also contains a hardcoded link to this unstyled test page, called 'A testing podcast from RCB' that contains someone drumming. This podcast also appears in proper Google Podcasts, and has an RSS feed. Our guess is that this might be Robin Bhaduri's drumming; he is a product manager for Google Podcasts, and was present at Podcast Movement last year. (We assume he's a better product manager than drummer).

In the New Media Show over the weekend, Google Podcast product manager Zack Reneau-Weden was interviewed. He gave strong hints that Google Podcasts would be available on more platforms in future; discussed support for deep links into audio, like chapter marks, from show notes; and claimed that there were over two million podcasts indexed in Google Podcasts. (Apple claim about 600,000; he may have been including duplicate RSS feeds like those from Castbox, which are still partially visible in Google's search index). He also made great play of Google's personalised recommendations, rather than using editorial teams, which he claims doesn't scale: particularly for the diverse groups of people who listen to podcasts. He also trailed new announcements at Podcast Movement.
