    Podnews is to launch a series of local day-long conferences, starting with Podnews Live - North, an event on June 13 at the Lowry Centre (above) in Salford, Gtr Manchester, UK. Among the speakers will be Sophie Hind from Voiceworks, Ian Forrester from BBC R&D, Kate Cocker from Everyday Positivity, and our Editor, James Cridland. Built to help those in the business of podcasting effectively network, tickets are now on sale (at an early-bird price); and a further event is planned in London the day before the British Podcast Awards.

    The British Podcast Awards, powered by Amazon Music, are about to reveal their nominees: 1pm UK time, 8am New York time, on their website. Hosting the stream are Hannah and Suruthi, the presenters of the popular true crime podcast Redhanded. They'll also be revealing the in-person location for this year's awards.

    The British Podcast Awards will be announced in a virtual ceremony on their website this Saturday at 7.30pm UK time. The show will be hosted by BBC Radio 1's Clara Amfo, with the help of BBC 6Music's Rhianna Dhillon alongside the biggest names in broadcasting and podcasting.

    dotLab Radio, a podcast from DCU Business School and the Irish Institute of Digital Business, has, as guest, Matt Deegan in their latest episode, "The rise and rise of podcasting – and the opportunities for brands and organisations". Matt is Creative Director of Folder Media, and a founder of the British Podcast Awards.

    The British Podcast Awards have announced that their awards will take place in a new, larger venue on May 16 - The Roundhouse in London, with space for 750 people. Overlooking the fifty judges will be last year's winner, George The Poet. They've released five new categories. Acast is the new title sponsor for the awards; and it's open now for entries.

    The British Podcast Awards has today launched a £50,000 funding scheme that offers financial support to podcasters to enhance their shows called The BPA Fund. Starting with partner Wellcome, The Pulse Award will award podcasts with grants of up to £5,000 to make health-focused features, episodes and short series that engages listeners in science and health research. You've until November 17 to apply.

    The BBC has announced that a second season of Have You Heard George's Podcast? from George the Poet will be on BBC Sounds this quarter. At this year’s British Podcast Awards it won four gold awards, two silver and Podcast of the Year.

    The British Podcast Awards have announced their return for 2019. Entries open today for 15 categories; writer and critic Miranda Sawyer, pictured above, has been announced as the new Chair of Judges. Here's a list of the winners from 2018; this will be the third year for the awards.

    From New York NY, USA, Daddy-Less Issues is a 'hilariously dark' podcast which tackles the difficult issue of discussing parental loss in a 'brilliantly comedic way', and publishes a new episode on Tuesday. (Griefcast, a podcast covering a similar subject, won the British Podcast Awards earlier this year).
