Podcast hosting company RSS.com has rolled out per-podcast and per-episode support for the podcast:location tag, which contains the place that the episode is about. It's also added support for podcast:season, podcast:episode and podcast:license. (They sponsor this section; our Editor is an advisor).

First look: Podcast hosting company RSS.com has launched PodViz, an in-house visualisation tool to produce videos from audio podcasts for services like YouTube. The service supports chapter art and YouTube metadata; an example is here. It's not limited to the company's hosting customers: any podcaster can try it here.

In the Podcast Business Journal later, Ben Richardson from RSS.com on the company's plans for Mexico, and doing business there. "In Mexico, there’s a lot more of a personal touch and relationships take a little bit longer to build - but once they’re built, they’re really strong," he says. You can subscribe free.

RSS·com no longer exposes their users' email addresses in RSS feeds. You can turn it on temporarily for legacy apps to verify you.

RSS·com now supports the podcast:txt feature. It can help verify feeds in supporting podcast apps.

Podcast host RSS·com now supports multiple podcasts under the same account and supports uploads in a wider variety of file extensions.

At one point, Samsung Free's automated podcast plays were responsible for more than 1-in-10 podcast downloads, Podtrac tells Podnews today. The problem first appeared around November 14, and peaked at 10.7% of all daily downloads on Nov 27. According to Podtrac data, the issue appears to have been corrected. Podtrac will temporarily remove all Dalvik counts from its monthly podcast and publisher rankers for November.

The Samsung Free podcast app will "soon be updated", according to a communication from Acast to its podcasters, to remove the cause of a significant increase in downloads from automatic plays. (See yesterday's Tech Stuff for more). In the meantime, Acast has demonetised listens coming from the Dalvik useragent "to protect our advertisers"; and notes that "under IAB guidelines, these listens are considered valid". (Also considered valid downloads: those podcast plays bought in games apps)

In a step forward for podcasters wishing to enable value-for-value streaming, podcast host RSS.com has partnered with Alby to seamlessly power "boosts" and "boostagrams" with a free lightning wallet for every one of their podcasters, to support the new payment and comment standard. RSS has produced a video showing how it works on their platform.

Podcast host RSS.com is to announce integration with Alby this week: enabling value 4 value for thousands of podcasts. You'll be able to activate and link your Alby account with your podcast in RSS.com's dashboard. Alberto Betella will be on the Podland podcast this week.

RSS.com has added automatic distribution of shows to Boomplay, which is an African streaming service with over 50 million monthly active users.

Exclusive: Podcasts promoting call girls are appearing within Spotify, as free plans from podcast hosting companies flood platforms with advertising for sex workers. We've a list of more than five hundred shows, many still live. RSS.com has implemented an automated process to combat these podcasts; however, shows are still on many other hosting companies. Apple Podcasts, which operates an approval process for new podcasts, is not showing these podcast titles. Spotify did not respond to our request for comment.
