First look: Spotify's Megaphone has launched its own broadcast-to-podcast technology tools. Building on the toolset it bought in its acquisition of Whooshkaa in Dec 2021, the radio-to-podcast tools are already in use by FOX News Audio.

After being purchased by Spotify at the end of last year, podcast host Whooshkaa is to close on Aug 31. Podcast hosting customers are being invited to migrate to Megaphone.

After a short hiatus, our podcast hosting company changes page has returned. As ever, it shows a significant amount of podcasts moving from paid hosting companies to Anchor. Overall, the biggest gains went to Anchor, RedCircle and Megaphone; the biggest losers were Whooshkaa, Soundcloud and Libsyn.

Whooshkaa's 'forever free' plan is not forever after all: it will close on May 1, the company has announced. The tier was reduced a year ago. Rob Loewenthal said in an email to customers: "We have big plans to continue adding features and functionality to Whooshkaa in 2021, which will require us to invest efforts previously used to support Whooshkaa Free."

Ghost Gate Road has made it to the number one slot in the Apple Podcasts chart in Australia, we're told by Whooshkaa. It's about Vince O'Dempsey, who has self-confessed to 33 killings.

Ghost Gate Road examines Vince O’Dempsey, a multiple murderer who claims to have killed thirty-three people, though it's thought the real number is more than a hundred.

Podcast host Whooshkaa has announced a set of new hosting plans, which take effect on May 1 for existing customers. Its 'forever free' plan, which used to offer 10,000 listens a month, now only covers 1,000: podcasters with more than that will need to upgrade to a new "semi-pro" plan for US $29 which offers a number of additional features.

In Australia, broadcaster NOVA Entertainment has formed a strategic podcast partnership with News Corp Australia, which owns a number of newspapers, Sky News, and the majority shareholder of pay TV operator Foxtel. Acast will become host of News Corp content, representing a loss for Whooshkaa. Lachlan Murdoch, the eldest son of Rupert Murdoch, is Executive Chairman of NOVA Entertainment and co-chairman of News Corp.

More radio activity - Corey Layton has been hired by ARN, an Australian radio broadcaster, as Commercial Product and Audio Partnerships Director. He joins the company from Whooshkaa, the Australian podcast host. ARN has also signed a licence extension for the iHeartRadio platform in Australia until 2036. In the US, iHeartMedia itself has completed its restructuring, and owes just US$5.75bn instead of $16.1bn.
