Cleanfeed has made a number of improvements to the core audio quality of its remote audio tool. The Podnews Weekly Review uses this every week; advantages for podcasting over tools like Riverside and SquadCast are significantly lower latency and “what you hear is what you record”, rather than hoping that the local audio recording will be OK. Cleanfeed are a long-term supporter of Podnews, but we’d recommend them anyway.

A new integrated remote recording tool will be added to Descript next month, according to the CEO, Andrew Mason. The company bought Squadcast a year ago this month. He was speaking to the Podnews Weekly Review - there’s a full-length interview in the Podnews Extra feed.

Editing tool Descript has purchased Squadcast, a remote recording service. Terms weren't given. The announcement says that the two services will continue separately for now, but Descript customers will get remote recording included immediately in their subscriptions for free; and SquadCast customers can choose to switch their subscription to Descript to get its editing capabilities at no additional cost.

In Dec 2021, Adobe revealed Project Shasta, which we noticed in Oct 2022 had rebranded to Adobe Express Podcast. It's now branded Adobe Podcast beta, and offers a mix of Descript-like "Edit words, not waveforms", SquadCast-like "Remote recording", and Auphonic-like "AI-powered audio" - and there's a waitlist on the website. Squadcast has received a patent for the company's recording engine. The patent relates to "simultaneous recording and uploading of multiple files from the same conversation", including drift normalisation tools. It's unclear how this affects similar tools like Riverside or Zencastr.

Exclusive: One of the biggest podcasts in the world will be making it to Radiodays Asia in Kuala Lumpur in early September. Presenter Jackie Leonard, and Karen Martin, the Editor of the Global News Podcast from the BBC World Service, will be speaking in a two-day conference which will also include podcasters from across the world. The Global News Podcast was quoted as achieving 12m downloads a month in 2019. SquadCast's Arielle Nissenblatt and Podnews's James Cridland will also be speaking. You can buy tickets here.

SquadCast has launched what they call the "all new SquadCast". The remote recording tool offers simplified pricing, a reimagined design, multi-account access, and enhanced security.
