Run your podcast ad too often, and it won’t work as well. That’s according to the latest Podscribe Performance Benchmarks Q2 2024 report, which you can get free here. The fourth edition of the data suggests that host-read ads often work twice as well as others; and performance goes down by 60% if you play the same ad more than twice in the same show. Acast's Ross Adams and Podscribe's Pete Birsinger are the guests on the Podnews Weekly Review this week, explaining Acast's recent decision to stop accepting Spotify Ad Analytics and instead to offer Podscribe for free, along with using a number of other attribution partners. Ross tells us: "Relying solely on a one-publisher environment for data aggregation could, we believe, introduce bias and self-promotion. That hinders the objective analysis of data. Podscribe, it's worth noting, doesn't sell media. Spotify does." The interview is in full in the Podnews Weekly Review.

Acast has announced that from September 1, it will no longer accept new campaigns that use Spotify's Ad Analytics. "Acast remains focused on fostering an open and transparent environment, working together with partners who share the same vision for the podcast industry's future." Acast said it will offer attribution from independent analytics company Podscribe for free to all advertisers, as well as work with a set of local companies in each region.

With the exception of Podcast Addict (see above), no major podcast app supports transcripts - Pocket Casts, Overcasts, or others. That seems an opportunity. Podscribe offers a transcript player which can be embedded on websites; Captivate's podcast player also includes transcripts.

Bryan Barletta's Sounds Profitable did a deep-dive on Podverifi, a new tool from Podscribe. The tool focuses on live airchecks at time of episode publishing and incredibly detailed transcription checks to make sure every scripted point, promo code, or URL was implemented correctly.

Meanwhile, AdsWizz is making 1,000,000 podcast episodes available for advertising using contextual targeting. The technology enables advertisers to target shows based on subjects discussed, and helps them avoid inadvertently being on shows mentioning things they'd rather their brand wasn't next to, like shows featuring anti-vaccination conspiracy theories, for example.

AdsWizz, a digital audio advertising technology company, has launched PodScribe, a contextual ad-targeting solution for podcasts. Working with ComScore, the tool uses "advanced speech-to-text transcription technology to provide insight into podcast content, and enables advertisers to efficiently target by keywords, concepts, topics, and interests within the podcast".
