The News Agents is claiming it has now had over 100 million downloads. The show is from Global in the UK, and was launched with Persephonica. It’s hosted on Captivate.

British podcast company Persephonica is to move its headquarters to Sheffield. The company makes some of the biggest shows in the country, and its move to South Yorkshire will help develop podcasting talent in the region.

Acast’s Lizzy Pollott went to Buckingham Palace to meet the King. Also there, judging by LinkedIn, was Listen’s Josh Adley, Persephonica’s Dino Sofos, Amazon’s Megan Bradshaw and others; it was an event to celebrate the UK’s creative industries.

Chart-topping UK podcast The News Agents is no longer being produced by Persephonica, the production company owned by Dino Sofos (above, right). The show is, says Edison Podcast Metrics, the #14 show in the UK. Deadline suggests that there had been a breakdown in relations after the launch of Political Currency, which Global saw as a rival show.

A new podcast festival has been launched in the UK. Crossed Wires will be in Sheffield from May 31-Jun 2. It’s organised by My Dad Wrote A (naughty book)’s Alice Levine, Persephonica’s Dino Sofos, and James O’Hara.

In the UK, Global is to launch The Sports Agents, to build on the success of The News Agents. Unlike the news show, The Sports Agents will not be produced by Persephonica.

The Times writes How to make big money from podcasts. We learn that Persephonica's Political Currency is recorded at Acast's offices in London; we also discover that Steve Coogan's CH Podcasts business, which makes an Audible-exclusive show, paid £1mn in dividends last year.

From The News Movement and Persephonica, Noted launched last week. Hosted by Mary Mandefield, it's a weekly podcast series that will make sense of the biggest talking points in news and culture. It's aimed at Gen Z audiences, and is built with an accessible tone and appropriate sound design.

In the UK, Persephonica launches Political Currency today - a new political podcast to compete with Goalhanger's The Rest Is Politics and the company's own The News Agents. The show is hosted by George Osborne, a former UK Chancellor, and Ed Balls, Shadow Chancellor (positions similar to the Treasury Secretary in the US).

In the UK, Persephonica has announced a new political podcast with George Osborne and Ed Balls. Osborne was the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the Treasury Secretary) for the UK; Balls was his opposition opponent. The podcast will start in Autumn, and comes as The Rest Is Politics (hosted by two opposing political figures) continues to ride high in the charts.

Global has announced that The News Agents is the name of a new daily podcast from Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel (daily Mon-Thu), and Lewis Goodall hosting the show on Friday. It's produced by Persephonica, the podcast company founded by Dino Sofos, and will launch on Aug 30.

Dino Sofos, one of the UK's most successful podcast producers, announced this morning he is to launch his own production company. Persephonica will work with the biggest international talent to develop innovative formats. Sofos was producer of the BBC's popular Brexitcast and Americast shows; he'll join the Podland podcast tomorrow.
