YouTube Announced as Headline Partner for Independent Podcast Awards 2026
The Independent Podcast Awards has today announced that YouTube are the Headline Partners for this year’s event. As part of the partnership, a representative from the company will reveal the overall Independent Podcast of the Year on the night.
The Independent Podcast Awards (IPAs) were launched in 2023 to champion exceptional creators and provide a dedicated platform for independent talent to thrive. These are for the backroom creators that aren’t funded by big brands, and make up around 75% of the UK podcast market.
YouTube has established itself as a premier destination for video podcasting, helping creators reach global audiences and build deep, lasting fandoms - making it a natural partner for the IPAs. Globally, over 100 million hours of podcast content are watched on YouTube every day by over 1 billion monthly active podcast users. Many of the people building media and entertainment careers in Britain today got their start on YouTube.
Podcast creators now run next-generation media and production companies, with editors, producers, studios and commercial partners behind them. YouTube is the platform that makes this ecosystem possible by allowing podcasts to build new audiences & revenue streams. By providing tools for video podcasting - from AI-powered Shorts suggestions and podcast discovery to multi-language dubbing- YouTube is helping independent podcast creators to streamline production and focus on what matters most: authentic storytelling.
Alison Lomax, Managing Director of YouTube UKI said: "We are thrilled to celebrate the innovation and creativity of the UK’s independent podcasting sector at this year’s awards. Podcast creators are a key part of the UK’s creator ecosystem, and YouTube has become a home where they are now building sustainable businesses. We’ve always believed that great stories should have no format boundaries, and we’re honoured to spotlight these incredible voices.”
Emma Turner, co-founder of the IPA’s said: “We’re delighted to have YouTube as our Headline Partner for this year’s event. To have such an esteemed brand supporting the awards shows just how important indie creators are in the podcasting world. We’re looking forward to working with the team to help showcase the incredible talent the awards find every year.”
This is the fourth edition of the awards, which were co-founded by Verbal Diorama and whynow in 2023. Since then the awards have attracted more than 1400 entries, shortlisted 500+ podcasts, and celebrated 75 winners. This year was a bumper year for entries, with over 540 submitted.
Judging for this year’s awards is already underway, with the shortlist set to be revealed in mid-September. The event will be taking place at Kings Place in Kings Cross in London on Wednesday 4th November.
